Fantasycon

(me and Mark Morris...wine flowed..)

Well, Fantasycon has been and gone for another year. It was, as usual great fun, although seemed quieter than normal - although maybe that was just after the huge crowds of last year with Clive Barker and Neil Gaiman in attendance.

It was curry with the crowd on Friday night and then on Saturday I broke my moderating virginity on a crime crossover panel, with Mike Carey, Michael Marshall, Joel Lane and the lovely Chaz Brenchley. Moderating is nerve-wracking - I don't want to do it again! I was also on a panel about Taboo which threw up some interesting questions....

(a bevvie of beauties...Lebbon, McMahon and Conrad Williams)

As ever with Fantasycon, it wasn't really about business like the US cons are, but all about catching up with people I don't get to see nearly enough and it was nice to see the awards banquet treated with more glitz than usual.

(Adam Nevil and Steve Volk doing a fine impersonation of in disguise aliens..)

I didn't win Best Novel (Big sigh..;-)) but I didn't mind. Not really... damn you Lebbon! ;-)

(Fellow author Paigan Stone and I did our best to raise the glamour stakes -Morris family in the back corner!)

This week I've also changed agents! I'm now with the fabulous Joe Veltre of the Artist's Literary Group in New York. We had a long chat on the phone this week and I'm really excited to be working with him and his team. Plus it's great to be in the same stable as the very lovely and very talented Sarah Langan (see MUSE page...)

(Me and one of my most favourite people, the inimitable Mr Jones)

(Mr Jones, Me and Dave Sutton who'd been working hard guarding the awards!)

UK SF Book News interview and other me news...

posted by Sarah Pinborough at

Hey all,
As the title suggests there is an interview with me up on the UK SF Book news website which can be accessed through the links page! Go take a peek...because I'm far too lazy to repeat everything I said for that all over again here....;-)

What else have I been up to?
On Wednesday the very pregnant Emma, the less pregnant Adrienne, and the completely not pregnant me were lucky enough to be invited to the book launch of 'The Chocolate Lover's Diet' by Carole Matthews. It was a fabulous affair with pink champagne, a chocolate fountain and a huge amount of free chocolates provided by Thornton's. Not the kind of thing we're used to in the horror community - not a black T-shirt or a pint of bitter in sight.

Once we had eaten and drunk (in may case) our fill, Adrienne and Emma raised their collective eyebrows and decided that they were going to organise a launch for me at the MK Borders for the next Leisure book and make it equally fabulous.... and then dragged me to the pregnancy and baby section where we learned a huge amount about various mother/father/baby horoscope combinations. Bless the baby bumps and those who carry them. ;-)

Next week is Fantasycon and I'm so looking forward to catching up with all the writery people. I think I love Fantasycon more than Christmas... and I love Christmas...

As well as drinking far too much than is good for me I'll be presenting the award for Best novella alongside Chaz Brenchley, and then I shall be waiting for the result of the Best Novel category in which Breeding Ground has been shortlisted, once again alongside Chaz Brenchley! As much as winning is always a nice thing I feel very happy to have made the final shortlist....
Will blog again after..
