COMPETITION RESULTS & OTHER NEWS

posted by Sarah Pinborough at

Hey,

Firstly, thanks for all the laughs you've given me this week with your summaries of my favourite films! It's been very entertaining - so much so that I've decided that two extra people will get signed copies of a random book of mine (whichever I grab from the shelf first) as a reward (or punishment if you don't like horror) for their efforts.

Winner of 'The Language of Dying' Ltd Ed -

@mdgeek Even in fantasy worlds where hookers become courtesans and STDs become consumption true love STILL can't survive.
(Moulin Rouge)

Runner up:

@rabbitandcrow Codependent male relationship breaks up when one partner seeks to better himself, find new crowd. Jilted partner moans about it.
(The man who would be king)

2nd runner up: (Purely for their understanding of the female psyche)

@keithpscott The Witches of Eastwick is a film. I think you are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Can I have a book please. x

Following are a few of the others that made me chuckle! (None of the rude ones..you naughty people!)

@johnrshanley The Man who would be King. The film Tony Blair should have watched BEFORE invading Afghanistan.

@damonlord Moulin Rouge: sexually frustrated writer in desperation charms disease-ridden prostitute. She dies so he writes angsty Bildungsroman instead.

@abers1 Get Carter in which Michael Caine tries 2 locate the original cast of Wonder Woman 4 an ill advised reunion show set in Newcastle

@LeeAHarris Three typical housewives terrorise a poor, defenseless Satan proving conclusively what we all knew, that femalekind is the ultimate evil.

@kenarmstrong1 Get Carter: Michael Caine discovers the grocer from Coronation Street is a gangster.

@downatheel If you and your friends fancy the same guy - get some new friends or a new guy (TWOE)

@Mihaidarkwolf Gilda: if the doctor prescribes or the devil offers a life of gambling, a beautiful woman or bad company it might be wise to reconsider

@csdaley I thought I'm going to watch Gilda again & win. Then I drank too much & passed out. Face meets floor=recap. Dead people in black and white.

Thanks also to all who entered who didn't get a mention here ;-) Good work all round. If the winners could email me their postal addresses I'll get stuff emailed to them next week.

Thought I'd better update new books too...seems I've got a lot out at the moment!

FEEDING GROUND is my next novel- out Sept 29 across bookstores in the US from Leisure Fiction.

HELLBOUND HEARTS coming out from Pocket books - an anthology of stories based on the original Clive Barker Hellbound Heart mythos. My story 'The Confessor's Tale' is in there amongst others by Chris Golden, Neil Gaiman, Tim Lebbon and Kelley Armstrong

THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF BEST NEW HORROR VOL 20 is also out this month. Stephen King's in it and so am I.

THE BRITISH FANTASY SOCIETY YEARBOOK A huge hardback collection of original stories from authors across the genres of horror/fantasy/sci-fi that comes free with membership of The British Fantasy Society. More info here: http://www.britishfantasysociety.org/

Sorry about lack of pictures...Blogger hates me today ;-)

Terrific news re: Hellbound Hearts. As the most tragic of Barker fans, I was going to buy this book anyway, but now I have another excuse. I've been meaning to check out some of your work for ages and if I like what I see in HH as much as I think I'm going to, many more of your books will find their way onto my shelves.
